Cuddle therapy is a relatively new concept that explores how touch can help to bring beneficial change to our mental and physical wellbeing. We do live in a touch deprived society which has led to many people feeling increasingly isolated and disconnected both from them selves and others. This lack of contact can have devastating effects both physiologically and psychologically on our self-confidence, sense of purpose and all aspects of our internal wellbeing.
Touch is the most important sense that we have, from the time we are born babies need that skin to skin contact to feel safe and loved, as we become adults touch provides reassurance and security and as Senior’s touch enables us to feel care and comfort from others. Cuddle Therapy allows you to work within boundaries, using mutual consent with a trained professional to explore how platonic touch can help you with your inner struggles in a safe and non-judgemental space.
Cuddle Therapy is not just simply giving a hug and indeed not everyone wants to receive cuddles, sometimes it can be just as powerful to simply have a friendly chat with emotional support, with someone to hold your hand, rub your back or stroke your hair. Or it may be that you want to snuggle up and watch a film, have some quiet time and just feel someone there next to you who listens and understands. Everyone has different needs so Cuddle Therapy can vary extensively.
Cuddle Therapy can provide a lifeline for so many people, maybee you have suffered a relationship break down that has affected your confidence, in addition a death of a spouse can leave people feeling very lonely. It may also be that you crave to have contact and connection and yet do not feel ready or have the time for a committed relationship. There are so many reasons why touch is so important and yet sadly lacking in many people’s lives.
Touch is not only how we express affection but is also essential for our cognitive and social development. It also offers many other benefits including reducing Stress and Anxiety, lowering blood pressure, increasing immunity, relieving pain and improving digestion and sleep patterns. A nurturing touch allows us to be able to reconnect within ourselves, hence improving the connections we share within our personal and professional relationships. Touch and connection are essential components to help us feel seen, heard, loved and understood.
Touch is essential to support our cognitive and social development, it is how we express affection and care not only for each other, but also ourselves. The sense of connection and belonging that a nurturing touch offers, helps to increase our self-confidence to enable us to become more resilience to life’s challenges, whilst improving our interpersonal relationships with others on a professional and personal basis in the long-term.
“They invented Cuddle Therapy to let people know you love them, … without saying anything …”
